The fifth time wasn't the charm.
Taylor Aumiller scored on a long, floating shot 6:10 into overtime to give the Fallston girls soccer team a 1-0 triumph over host Rising Sun in a region semifinal game Friday afternoon. It is the fifth straight season the Cougars have ousted the Tigers from the region tournament. Rising Sun has not scored a goal in those five games. North East girls soccer coach Matt Roberts says Rising Sun is the team to beat.
That's exactly what the Indians did Tuesday night, October 17. North East topped the Tigers 2-1 to claim a second straight Susquehanna Division title and the top seed in the region tournament. Elkton put a bit of a damper on the Perryville girls soccer team's Senior Night by blanking the Panthers 4-0 Wednesday night, October 18.

Young and old still like to play the sport they love. Mike Seydell, a former Rising Sun High School soccer player, Coach Ken Ulrich, and John Harnett helped make that happen when they planned the annual alumni soccer game. Their goal was to create a stronger sense of community with the current players and the alumni. They also wanted a game that had meaning. Hartnett's brother, a former RSHS soccer player, was killed in a motorcycle accident in 2012. "So we decided to create the alumni game to raise money for a scholarship in his name", Seydell said in an email. "This year we decided to expand and allow for the women's alumni to play a game as well because last years was so successful", Seydell wrote. "Last year it was just boys and the game raised around $2200", said Harnett. "Around 50 guys and around 22 girls came out to play". Perryville's girls soccer team posted a satisfying win over Havre de Grace in its playoff opener before being ousted by visiting Patterson Mill Friday evening in the region semifinals.
It happened again.
The Rising Sun girls soccer team was booted from the playoffs by Fallston for the third straight season. And for the third consecutive year, the Tigers were unable to score a goal. Now the Rising Sun girls soccer team can turn its attention to Fallston.
The Tigers took care of business Friday afternoon, defeating North East 4-0 in the opening round of the region tournament. |
